A 10-minute song has never seemed as short as today. We did partnering impro in contemporary class. To melt to the floor and let someone give you their weight. So simple. Receive impulses, and be amazed of what your body is capable of. Give impulses and and be the eyes for someone who blindly trusts you. Take care of someone while they dance. Be taken care of while you dance.
You cannot do impro and not realize something new every single time.
We should impro through life a little more. Sure, sometimes having a routine, a choreography if you will, is, not only necessary, but calming and soothing. It's nice to have something to rely on. But try swinging it for a change.
It's paying close attention to your environment. It's reacting to things that happen around you. It's showing how you feel. Doing what you feel like doing. Trying things you haven't tried before. Stepping out of your comfort zone. Taking chances. Letting yourself breathe and finding your limits, and pushing your way through them. It's only then when you realize who you are and who you can be. When you don't have boundaries holding you back - hell, you can be anything.
Even if it lasts for just one song.
